Quick and Healthy Breakfast Choices

Ding! Ding! Ding!  Your alarm clock goes off and for many of us in the Philadelphia area, it is off to the races.  Shower, dress, take kids to school, commute weather it be over a bridge or public transportation, arrive at work place, and get to WORK.  It is no wonder many of us are somewhat forced to skip breakfast.  And, I know it’s been drilled in all of our brains over and over again that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  But the real trick is how to have the most important meal of the day and make it real quick at the same time.  Lets just go over a few basics because when it comes to breakfast, keeping it basic and simple is always smartest.  So, FYI lets drill again!  Eating breakfast is proven to lower your cholesterol, maintain your weight, jump start your metabolism, and more importantly initiates focus and creativity for the day to come.

Now what can we actually eat?

When considering your breakfast options always remember four very healthy components.  They are lean proteins, whole grains, low fat dairy, and fruit.  You can combine any of these in any different way to create a quick and nutritious meal.  Some examples are whole grain toast with peanut butter, tortilla wrapped with turkey and cheese, hard boiled eggs, instant oatmeal with blueberries or bananas, dry cereals (we here at PhillyHealthWatch like Kashi Go Lean and General Mills Cheerios) and a simple quick  low fat Greek Yogurt.  Add an apple to any of these, and it is OFF TO THE RACES!

When it comes to breakfast eating something should be non-negotiable.  You will be leaner, healthier, smarter, and overall more productive.

We love breakfast!!
